I use a variety of teaching methods and materials and try to tailor my lessons to the individual students. For example, if a student wants to simply improve her everyday English speaking ability, I can provide conversation topics with key words and expressions. If someone wants to know how to interact in a business setting conducted in English, I can provide those materials as well. The foundation for most topic-based lessons is conversation. This entails: listening and repeating; sample dialogues; using key expressions with blanks that allow the student to see the application of the language in many settings and with different names, items, and places.
It is also possible to request lectures on a given topic for the student to ask questions and take notes. Since I have a master's degree in English and pride myself on my knowledge of grammar and the linguistic functions of the parts of the language, I can entertain almost any questions the student might have about how to say something a certain way and why it is constructed like this. In other words, I can conduct grammar lessons apart from or in conjunction with conversation sessions.
