Defense Language Institute Hungarian - Image The materials in Volume 2 of the Hungarian Basic Course were revised on the basis of comments / suggestions on the Field Test Edition. Primary changes were made in sequencing grammar, the revision of grammar notes and the extension and diversification of exercises.

Parts of the lessons were rearranged to match the following study sequence:

One: Introduction (to be used in an informal activity, prior to introduction of the grammar).
Two: Grammar
Three: Vocabulary
Four: Dialogue
Five: Homework
Six: Exercises
Seven: Narrative

The following sequence of instruction is suggested:

- First afternoon hour: Introduction of the grammar of the lesson, to include some practice exercises (Parts One and Two).
- Second afternoon hour: Introduction of the Vocabulary and the Dialogue (Parts Three and Four).
- Third (last) afternoon hour: Dialogue Drill and explanation of the Homework assignment (Parts Four and Five).
- Homework accomplished by the student at his own pace, in study hall or at his dwelling place. A study period of approximately two to three hours is considered adequate.
- First morning hour: Short "warming-up" period followed by recitation of and/or conversation about the dialogue, and closed out by a vocabulary quiz.
- Second morning hour: Extensive structural drill exercises, stressing quick responses (Part Six).
- Third (last) morning hour: Transcription exercises, and guided conversation on the Narrative (Part Seven).
