Introduction

¡Hola! My name is Yoselin, I'm a native Spanish speaker from Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia.

I have a degree in Linguistics and Literature from Universidad de Cartagena, and I'm certified teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language.

I offer classes to students from age 18 and up; I have experience working with students from many nations around the world. I also offer clases for Exam preparation (DELE) and specialized courses for Tourists, Medicine, Lawyers and for Diplomatics.

Education

During my work experience we had a series of "tertulias" in which after reading and analyzing different study materials, we socialized and discussed the methodologies adopted over time for Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. This space was very important because we were able to ground the different theories in our context and analyze their usefulness in today's classroom.
In addition, during my undergraduate studies, I was instructed in each of the language's levels: syntactic, morphological, semantic and pragmatic; as an ELE teacher it is a fundamental basis because from there the comparisons between L1 and L2 are born, when this is possible; and very important: its knowledge allows to illustrate and simplify concepts of the Spanish language that a priori are complex.

Teaching style

I've worked in the spanish teaching's field for almost 6 years. During this time, I've had the opportunity to teach students especially from North America and Europe. The students who have participated in my classes have ranged from 15 years old to 75 years old, and this heterogeneity has allowed me to explore and share my language from different perspectives within the academic course.
I gained experience managing courses whose students had almost opposite professions and points of view, as well as private classes, as is natural.
I don't consider myself a teacher with a fixed methodology, as I understand the variables of nationalities, interests, priorities and ways of learning that can coexist in the classroom; therefore, I like to present personalized class material as much as possible because I seek the academic advancement of the student and nurture the particular and general interests in both group and private classes.
I have experience in all levels, and for circumstantial reasons, I am specialized in pre-intermediate, intermediate and advanced levels, and I must say that it is professionally satisfactory to observe a positive and gradual process from elementary levels.
On the other hand, I like the private class because taking into account the level and individuality of the student, I feel the academic freedom to design the class material specifically for the learner, making it flexible enough to modify it according to the context and combining it with other bibliographic resources specialized in ELE.
In general terms, my teaching style is hybrid; I consider that mastery of the language, at any level, is achieved by being clear about the importance of grammatical structures, their functional and pragmatic use in oral and written interactions and the active acquisition of vocabulary provided in class or acquired during interactions.
And finally, without a doubt, teaching Spanish as a foreign language has been one of the best choices of my life; it is a process in which I never cease to be surprised by the difference between each student, each nationality and each age. Of course it is a challenge to coexist with such variables and to teach an interesting and useful class for each one, however, that is the reason for my profession, there is always a strategy and i'm passionate about designing it.
